Very many congratulations to all those who took part in the RNR last week, including importantly team organisers and support elements . Despite problems in fielding the strongest team, the club did remarkably well in coming 3rd overall and second in the strong Open Class and supported by a commendable result in the Club Class. There were also some very fine individual runs which have been reported elsewhere. I just have one small moan. What a pity it was to see Alan having to represent the club on his own and having to collect the trophies himself. Surely the club could do better than that, even if only those who finished could have stayed on?

Well done to all the organisers, runners and support crews involved in the Round Norfolk Relay this weekend. Once again it was a privilege to be involved in this fantastic event. Special thanks to all runners in the Club Class team, particularly those who stepped in or changed legs at the last minute, when I was beginning to wonder if we would ever make it to the start line! Extra special thanks to Julie and Hannah for all their help supporting the Club Class team with escort cycling, vehicle recovery and anything else that cropped up. And particular thanks to Hannah for her additional role as timekeeper whilst still finding the time to be the fast Senior Lady on stage 10! Roll on next year!!! Simon

As from now I have the task of trying to get a junior team together to compete in this years Frostbite League Races over the winter months. Some of you will already have children who love running, well now's there chance to do it for the club and as part of a team. If they are aged 9 to 15 and can run 1.5 miles I would like to hear from you, as it might also encourage more adults to compete in te main race. Don't forget that the East Cambs AC which me and Melanie also coach starts again on Tuesday 8th Sept. If you have a child interested in all aspects of athletics we meet at the sports hall, kings school, Barton Road, Ely on a Tuesday from 5-6pm. Please contact me for more info on both the above subjects. Thanks Alan

I would like to thank the Chairman, Committee and Members of Ely Runners for the remarkable framed collage of members, the extraordinarily inventive photograph album, and the engraved pewter tankard to record my twenty enjoyable and rewarding years as Secretary of Ely Runners. As I was left somewhat speechless on presentation of these after the AGM last night, I would like to make amends here by recording my deep appreciation and gratitude for these very kind gestures.
