Congratulations to all Ely Runners on some very fine performances in the London Marathon. In particular, Ian Day's run was outstanding and deserves a special mention. Clearly the training 'menu' provided by the club is working well! Look forward to seeing you at this year's Round Norfolk Relay. Best regards. Ian

Good luck to all Ely Runners competing in the London Marathon on Sunday - I hope the dedication you have shown to your training rewards you with a great run. Remember, don't panic if the first few miles are a little slower than you were planning and try not to waste nervous energy dodging in and out of slower starters - it really is a marathon and not a sprint! Does anybody have a small running belt that is sutable for carrying about 8 carb-gels. I would like to borrow one for the London Marathon on 13/04 if possible. Also, I would like to thank everyone who has made a donation towards my fundraising for CLIC SARGENT - for those of you that would still like to donate, there is plenty of time and you can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/blatch Thank you Blatch

A big thank you to all those Ely Runners and friends of the club, including Ramsey RR, March AC, 1094 (City of Ely) Squadron ATC, and the Paramedics for helping to make the 2nd Turing Trail Relay another successful event. The cold, wet, windy, muddy and flooded conditions over the 34 mile course were difficult for the race and the many officials. Without their preparation, diligence, adaptability, and enthusiasm, the race would have faltered in such weather. All those involved in the organisation of today's event have good reason to be proud of their achievements today.

I would like to thank the Chairman, Committee and Members of Ely Runners for the remarkable framed collage of members, the extraordinarily inventive photograph album, and the engraved pewter tankard to record my twenty enjoyable and rewarding years as Secretary of Ely Runners. As I was left somewhat speechless on presentation of these after the AGM last night, I would like to make amends here by recording my deep appreciation and gratitude for these very kind gestures.

Message received from Emma Greaves after completing the Rowbotham's Round Rotherham 50 mile trail race on Saturday 8th December: "Loved it. Great fun. A true challenge, learnt lots. Did it in 11 hrs 35 mins. Navigating cross-country in the dark was interesting. All great fun. Take care. Emz"

You will all have seen John's notice announcing the inaugural ARC XC Championships to be held on Sunday 30th March, starting at 11am. It would be great if the club could get a team/s to compete in this championship. Perhaps someone would be prepared to organise a minibus so that the team could travel together? The race will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park (a wonderful place for a xc race) which is on the A3 just south of Petersfield. Full details in due course, but in the meantime how about it Ely? Sorry to read that JT is stepping down after a long and distinguished period at the helm of the club. He deserves great credit and our thanks for all he has done. Regards to all.

There is a new facility at the top right of this page referred to by its creator as the "Widget". This is a regularly updated menu which links to running news items on various web sites. We will trial it for a while and according to members' feedback, decide whether to leave it on indefinitely. Comments are welcome.

On Monday evening 1st October at the City of Ely Council Chamber, the club's Secretary was presented with a cheque for £250 for Ely Runners from the Mayor of Ely Cllr Ron Bradney who included Ely Runners amongst the organisations that do "wonderful work within the community". The cheque was a grant for the club's 2007 Grunty Fen Half Marathon, so well done and thanks to all those involved.

Dear Ely Runners, Thank you all so much for the many thoughtful gifts and vouchers we received for our wedding. We first met each other at the running club and have been supported by our many friends at Ely Runners throughout our relationship, so the gifts, cards and well wishes mean a lot to us. Thanks again for thinking of us during this special time in our lives. Wedding photos will be posted soon on the Ely Runners website. Adam and Natalle.

Even though I should remain impartial in all matters RNR, I too must add my congratulations on a fine all-round performance by the Ely team. To win two first and one third team place, in the face of stiff competition, was highly commendable and is confirmation of the clubs strength in depth. Of course, none of this would have been possible without good pre-planning and execution of that plan over the weekend. For this Alan (Rutterford), Rachel (Roberts), Julie (Foreman) & Karen (Roe) deserve great credit. To crown an excellent event, Ian's (Day) stage win was the icing on the cake. Well done everyone and it was good to see the club represented in depth at the prize giving. With best wishes, Ian (Vaughan-Arbuckle)

I would like to thank all involved in the organisation of the recent trip to France for participation in the Andrezieux-Boutheon 10km. The Soham Twining Society, the Andrezieux Twining Society, FAC Athletics Club in Andrezieux, the French families that provided accomodation, Helen Crisp, John Turner, Brian Redman and anyone who I may not have mentioned. We all enjoyed the experience and were honoured to represent the club overseas. It is possible that FAC will enter a team into the Grunty Fen Half-Marathon in September.
